About Mark & The Karma Institute
Mark Hughes began his journey as an advocate for family education when he discovered with his first-born child there were more classes available for dog obedience than parenting. In 1994, he founded the Satori Institute and became certified as a Family Wellness Instructor. He introduced family education for the entire family by offering week-long retreats at youth camps that boasted “a lot of fun and a little education, too.”
In 2002, Mark became a speaker and facilitator for a Southern California based seminar company, Productive Learning & Leisure and enjoyed a prosperous experience coaching parents and young adults to be their very best. With a natural talent for inspiring youth and awakening parents, Mark went on to obtain certification as a facilitator for the ‘Redirecting Children’s Behavior’ program offered by The International Network of Children and Families. In an effort to make family education available to everyone, and in honor of his 84-year-old mother, Karma, Mark formed a nonprofit organization, The Karma Institute, a project of the Congressional District Programs. In 2007, Mark developed and facilitated a workshop designed for both parents and teens, ‘The Parent and the Teen: Preparing Yourself for Independence.’ His expertise in “bridging the gap” prompted Mark to offer his services to business owners as an employee benefit with his Family Crisis Coaching and assist companies and colleges with understanding the Millennial Generation.
I Am Not a Prophet, Therefore I Know, having lain dormant for almost twenty years, was inspired by his personal spiritual awakening and his desire to share how very ordinary people can live their authentic journey by listening to the Inner Voice.
