The beautiful teen years.  Often times teens find themselves not keeping agreements with you (their parents), teen parent agreementswhich can be frustrating for both sides.

  • Do you find yourself frustrated with your child breaking their agreements?
  • Why do you think they just blow you off and do whatever they want?

I’m curious…teen responsibilities

When I was a kid, I would never think of my parents mowing the lawn.

It seems like this generation would never think of mowing the lawn on their own without being reminded and hassled.

My Questions:

Do you think you have more responsibilities or less responsibilities than your parents?

Is that good or bad?  Why?

I’d love to hear what you have to say about your responsibilities.  Do you have too much?  Not enough?  How would you compare your responsibilities to those of your parents when they were teens?

I’m not a flaming liberal but I do think we have exaggerated the fear and conflict around both drugs teen alcohol abuseand alcohol.

Don’t get me wrong: they are both devastating to our society.

Our world would be a better place without drug and alcohol abuse.  However, since it is here and isn’t going anywhere soon, I believe we need to understand a level of tolerance.

In European countries they don’t seem to have the problems because they don’t make it so taboo.  Young kids sip from the wine glass and come to understand how to be responsible with it.

My Question: When parents drink heavily, are you able to translate that they can because they are of age or do you think you are entitled?

I’d love to hear what you have to say about drugs and alcohol.  Do you think you’re entitled to use these substances?  Do parents and teens have the same understanding of drugs and alcohol?  How widespread is the use of drugs and alcohol in your school… and with your friends?

My daughter studies on the couch with her ipod playing while she is watching TV.  teen study habits

I could never do that but she seems to pull it off.  Not bad studying habits for a kid that gets a 4.25 GPA.

I had to adjust to her style of studying.

Are you getting hassled for your study habits while you are pulling a decent GPA?

My favorite line to my kids when it comes to their cell phone is “let it go to your voicemail….that’s teen cell phone usagewhy God invented answering machines.”

Now with text messaging, it seems the interruptions are endless.

It drives me crazy when my kids go unconscious while they are with me.

Do you think there is a middle ground and what would that be?

Have you worked out something with your parents?

I’d love to hear what you have to say about cell phones and computers.  You as a teen are a different generation from your parents… are your parents out of touch with technology?  What do you feel is a good “middle ground” for cell phone and computer usage?  Let me know!

I remember toolin’ around town in my car until the early hours of the morning when I was in high school.  teen curfewsThere was something very liberating about it.

I don’t know, just the thought of being out late when most of the world was home and in bed.  I didn’t have a curfew back then.

But just a month ago, I received a call from a Sheriff’s deputy reporting that he was with my son and he was violating the curfew for the City of Wilsonville.  I didn’t even know that there was one.  He asked if he could bring him home, which he did.

While my son escaped being hauled down to the county jail, many of his friends were not so lucky… neither were their parents.  They had to go down and get them at 3 o’clock in the morning.

My question to you is: “Is it worth it?
